Ms. Houston is a National Board Certified teacher. She loves teaching Gifted and Talented classes and coaches her school’s Taiko Drum Group. She eats Paleo and does CrossFit training so she can keep up with her amazing students. She believes in hard work and being a good example for her many students. She feels her school is one of the best in the world and feels so fortunate to work with such creative colleagues who strive for success every day. Go, Summit!
The students in Ms. Houston’s Math classes are keeping their own data wall this year. They are working hard to track their progress through MAP scores, exit slips, SuccessMaker grade-level gains, and % growth between 4th and 5th grade groups. We are reaching our goals.

Great example of educational fun on Fridays. I have my own Friday story. I’m a retired math and statistics professor who volunteers in 4th grade math on Fridays in a public school in Durham, NC. I divide the class into teams to play math games oriented to the curriculum. The classes I’ve worked with have done outstandingly well on NC end-of-grade tests. Incidentally, I know Ashland well. I grew up in Huntington. My wife was born and raised in Kenova.
